What is the Hijri calendar?
The Hijri calendar is the lunar calendar used by Muslims worldwide, dating from the migration (Hijra) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE. A Hijri year consists of twelve lunar months (354 or 355 days), and each month begins with the birth of the new crescent after sunset, so the Hijri calendar runs about 11 days ahead of the Gregorian calendar each year.
